Luke 22:42-43 "Father, if you are willing take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done. An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him."
In Luke 22:42-43, Jesus was praying in the Garden of Gethsemane, asking God to take away the suffering that was coming upon him. He said "yet not my will, but yours be done". Wow, that is powerful to me. If Jesus prayed to God if it is your will not mine, then how much more are we to pray and ask our Heavenly Father the same thing, not my will but yours.
It is hard to let go of what our will and desires are for our life. It can be anything from a new job, healing, relationships, car, house, or anything we are desiring. When we pray about it we need to remember to ask the Lord if it is his will, not our will. I'm not saying you shouldn't ask God for things, God wants us to ask him for anything and everything. But, when we let go and ask him for his will, we are surrendering to him, and trusting in him.
1 John 5:14-15 "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us-whatever we ask-we know that we have what we asked of him."
In Matthew 6:9-10 Jesus teaches us how we should pray. This prayer is called "The Lord's Prayer". Verses 9-10: "This then is how you should pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."
In this part of the prayer, Jesus is again instructing us to pray and ask our Heavenly Father for his will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. When we pray and ask God for his will, not our will, then it takes away any pride in us.
If you have been praying for something and God hasn't answered your prayer in the way you have hoped. Don't give up. Rest in the assurance of knowing that God loves you. He knows what you need when you need it. When you pray for God's will to be done, not yours, and wait upon his perfect timing. God will open up new doors of opportunities and answer your prayers in ways that you've never imagined.
Matthew 6:8 "Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him."
Philippians 4:19 "And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus."
